St Lukes Cranham with Moor Lane Church

Services - Weddings

A wedding ceremony

Both St Luke's and Moor Lane Churches can be used for weddings that we take. (The pictures on this page are of a wedding held at St Luke's.)

Marriage In church

These days you can get married in many different places, so why get married in a church?

  • Because it's the "done thing".
  • I always wanted a white wedding!
  • It will make the day more special...

None of these are wrong reasons to opt for a church ceremony, but the most important thing is that you've made the choice to take those vows before God and to ask God's help in the years of marriage to come.

Because of this, we ask those who aren't members of a church, but who are getting married in St Luke's or Moor Lane, to plan on coming along for a few Sunday morning services to get the feel for what we do and to commit to at least the first four evenings of our Alpha Course to get an introduction to the Christian Faith.

Making contact

A meeting with Margaret

If you choose to get married in St Luke's or Moor Lane churches, then we will chat about what you would like and what's appropriate for the setting and answer any questions you might want to ask.

Margaret or Gladys are at St Luke's from 10am to 11am on Saturday mornings and are usually the first point of contact. There's no need for an appointment.

They will check your eligibility (follow the link at the end of this page to the Church of England web site for guidance on eligibility for getting married in church) and will arrange to have the Banns read for three Sundays prior to your ceremony. (Banns also need to be read in the parish where each of you live as well if that is another parish.) They will also book the church (and clergy!) for the rehearsal and actual ceremony, arrange for the register to be written up and explain about the fees. They can also arrange flowers if you wish.

Wedding confetti

We want you to have a day that you can look back on with pleasure as the perfect beginning for your new life together.

If you've any questions at all about marriage in church, or want to discuss your situation with one of the clergy, then please contact Michael Vickers or Lee Duckett (St Luke's) or Tony Ward (Moor Lane).

We look forward to meeting you and having the chance to talk things through.
