St Luke's and Moor Lane congregations meet separately every Sunday morning, both following a monthly pattern:
Both congregations meet separately at 10am for a morning service. These services are informal with groups for children and young people (and a crèche at St Luke's).
Children and adults spend the first part of the service together. We use hymns and songs as expressions of our worship of God. These are led by a band or orchestra - neither congregation has a choir or a traditional organ – with the words for these on a screen. We don't expect anyone to join in if they don't want to - the key thing being that we want everyone to be themselves. On two Sundays a month we also include Holy Communion; children share this time as they receive a prayer or blessing. If you're used to taking Holy Communion in another church please feel welcome to receive here too.
An offering will also be taken during the service. Those who are regular members of the church can use it to support the work of the church, visitors are under no obligation to give.
The children then go to their own groups while there is a reading from the Bible and a sermon (a talk linking the Bible and everyday life). Click here for more details of our children’s work on a Sunday.
These services finish around 11.15/11.30 am with refreshments (which are free of charge), where everyone is welcome to stay and chat.
We believe in a God who answers prayer and so, as well as praying during the service there is an opportunity for people to receive personal prayer after the service is finished.
10.00am "Invite-A-Friend" Service
These are short, exciting inclusive services – only 45 minutes long with lots for all ages, both regular church members and friends. Every few months these services are "with lunch", which means exactly that – a light lunch of soup and a roll with cake and soft drinks. These are a great opportunity to chat, make new friends and catch up with old ones.
Children stay in for this service rather than go to their normal Sunday groups.
9.30am - 11.30am - MLC Big Breakfast
This is a new pilot event, replacing our monthly Family Service, which will be a cross between a café and a church service. It includes interactive worship, video clips, crafts, activities and a story.
We get the newspapers in and anyone can come in and enjoy a top notch breakfast and chill out with live music from our musicians. People can drop in anytime between 9.30am and 11.30am and as well as the food, there are some other great activities to enjoy, including a room of total peace and quiet that we will call the Peace Zone.
See the monthly diaries for St Luke’s and Moor Lane for dates of special services and Holy Communion.
