Many people - from teenagers to grandparents - who have become Christians, often join the church and wish to express their commitment to God by becoming a member of a worshipping community. People who have been baptised as an infant may be confirmed provided they are old enough to reaffirm for themselves the promises made for them by their parents and godparents at their baptism.
Confirmation services are always led by a Bishop who will normally use the opportunity to talk to the candidates about the responsibilities of adult Christian life and pray for them. He often addresses the congregation, too, and encourages them to support the candidates in the new step each is taking. Those being confirmed will then make their public profession of faith. The service ends with the candidates and the congregation taking Holy Communion.
