Midweek - Adults

For us, Christianity is about how we express our faith during the week as well as what we do on a Sunday. The common theme is to give guidance and encouragement for our everyday lives. It is important to check times and dates of these events with the Parish Office before attending to save disappointment.

House groups

There are lots of house groups and each one has its own style. As a generalisation about 10 people meet for two hours during an evening every week or fortnight. The superficial conversation that can sometimes dominate the coffee time at Sunday church is replaced by discussion over the issues that really matter. But there's lots of light hearted banter too. Many people have said their participation in a house group has helped them grow in their faith.

CAFÉ and Men's Breakfast

Both of these events are very well attended, over forty. No need to book - just turn up.

  • CAFÉ stands for "Come and Find Encouragement". A midweek session for women-only to meet, chat and hear from a speaker. Held at St Luke's Church. Days vary. Click here for more information including this year's activities.
  • The men's equivalent has a breakfast (cooked by men) on a Saturday morning once a term. Its purpose is to equip men to be as God intended.

Bible Study Groups

Opportunities to study the word of God and to share in fellowship as we equip ourselves as disciples of the living God.

Pop-In

A very popular daytime meeting on Mondays from 1.30pm to 4.00pm. There are two groups, one at St Luke's and another at Moor Lane Church. The format is light refreshments, chat, reminisce and listen to a visiting speaker on a range of Christian or non-Christian subjects. Average attendance is about sixty.

Spark

A ladies Bible-based discussion group that meets every other Monday during term time at St Luke's Church. In informal occasionand Pre-school children are welcome (there is a créche available). Everyone welcome whether you normally attend church or not.

The Acorn Team

Acorn

Over 30 young mums with Pre-school age children, mostly non-Christian, meet at Moor Lane Church on a Thursday morning during term time to meet friends and make new ones. Acorn is described, "as much for the toddlers as it is for the Mums".

Special events

St Luke's Church with Moor Lane Church organise many events over the course of the year. The list below gives a flavour to the type of events arranged individually or as a group. Keep an eye on the notice sheets and Connect (both available as a download via this website) for more information.

  • Marriage Course. Making a good marriage better or restore a failing relationship.
  • ParenTalk - an opportunity to enhance and develop parenting skills.
  • Bereavement Support Group - a six week course for those who have been bereaved.
  • Spring Harvest. Join up with 1000s of other Christians for a major inter-denominational gathering every Easter. Worship, Seminars and fellowship.
  • New Wine. Like Spring Harvest but held under canvas in the Summer.
  • Marriage Preparation Course - for those engaged to be married.
